How to Avoid Burnout as a Social Media Influencer

It’s no secret that the space created by Social Media influencers is getting more crowded by the day. With new influencers emerging, it is becoming increasingly difficult to stand out and make your mark in this massive industry. With the boom of influencers using various social media platforms to share their message with the world, many content creators are facing extreme burnout. One of the biggest challenges they face is having to create new content on a daily basis. Some of this content generates an amazing response, going viral while giving the influencer fabulous exposure! How exciting! On the flipside, some content barely gets noticed or engaged with at all. This leaves the influencer sitting at their computer, feeling frustrated and wondering why they are even posting in the first place. It’s enough to drive any successful influencer crazy!

Although social media sounds like an adventurous and glamorous endeavor for those who are new to the industry, it is important that budding social media influencers don’t get too carried away with dreams of grandeur. Being a successful social media influencer can be a tedious, overwhelming and stressful task. It can take many years to build up a following, monetize a YouTube channel or gain sponsorship from brands. That being said, being an influencer can be highly rewarding, fun, and lucrative! It also allows influencers to promote positivity on social media, something that is desperately needed at this time. It all comes down to maintaining a healthy balance, setting a schedule, and detaching from social media when the timing is appropriate.

If you are worried about experiencing burnout or you feel like you are already super stressed, here are some tips for you:

Plan your content in advance: As Alan Lakein once said, “failing to plan is planning to fail.” When working in the social media space, it is very important that you plan out your content on a bi-weekly basis. Take advantage of using apps like Hootsuite, Social Pilot and Buffer. Hire a Virtual Assistant or Marketing Manager to handle the task of scheduling and monitoring your content. This will reduce your chances of burning out, especially since you won’t be playing catch up with your daily tasks of being a social media influencer.

 

  1. Create Engaging Content:Content is the hero for every social media influencer, no matter what platform they choose to use. Focus on creating content that is relevant to trends in your industry and topics that are of interest to your audience. Stay on top of the latest articles that are shared on topics relevant to your brand. Use Google Keywords to see what topics your audience is searching for and create content that focuses on these terms.

 

  1. Create some generic posts or “filler” posts:From memes to quotes, you can schedule some engaging posts to keep your platform active, especially if you are too busy to create video content (or you just don’t feel up to it). Frequency is crucial when it comes to posting content on social media. Don’t slow down your schedule just because you aren’t feeling up to the task of posting fresh content. Have a folder on your computer of graphics that feature quotes, memes, or testimonials that you can run during times when you need to take a break.

 

  1. Content Collaborations:Working with other social media influencers isn’t only fun, it’s a great way to generate new content! Find social media influencers that have a similar audience as yours and send them a note, asking if they want to collaborate with you! You can have them write a guest blog post, interview them on your podcast, or even host a joint-giveaway. Collaborating is mutually beneficial as it enables your content reach a wider audience.

 

  1. Be data-driven:Don’t neglect your insights! Always keep an eye on what types of content are generating the most engagement from your audience. Think of ways that you can use hot topics that your followers are interested in by creating new types of content. If you had a blog post do well, why not create a video that talks more about it! By diving deeper into the data available on your social media platform, you can create more content based on audience interest, leading to higher engagement.
